Sr. Control Algorithm Engineer
Tasks: The Senior Control Algorithm Engineer will lead the effort to develop new methods for controlling the light output of the next generation of new products. The responsibilities of this position are wide-ranging and include well-defined technical tasks as well as more free-thinking creative tasks to ensure the company maintains its position as a leader in color science and color control. The Senior Control Algorithm Engineer will become the company’s expert on color science, calibration techniques and control methods. The candidate will work closely with our Software, Embedded Systems and Electrical Engineers to achieve the tasks at hand. The candidate is expected to research and apply new fields of study related to embedded systems, communication protocols, and implementation of color control theory. Many of the requirements of this position will require the desire and motivation to learn about the field of color science.
The Senior Control Algorithm Engineer will assist in the selection of appropriate hardware to implement the algorithms and resulting firmware. The company currently uses an ANSI C compiler for Microchip PIC18 series processor line. They perform high-end floating point mathematics for closed-loop color control, and is exploring the use of Microchip’s new 32-bit family of processors. Tasks would include developing and servicing firmware for LED light engines and advanced control systems that employ RS-485, DMX, Bluetooth, and TCP/IP.
Experience: A qualified candidate for this position could come from a variety of fields and may not have experience in all of the desired areas. Experience in and/or the desire, initiative and ability to learn color science and control methods and creatively develop how to meet the companies goals in those areas are the most important requirements. The candidate will preferably have 2 to 7 years of experience in a related field, such as control systems, PCB design for small embedded systems and/or programming microcontrollers. A broad range of experience and applications is desirable. The candidate must have strong skills in linear algebra (including linear equations and matrices). A candidate may have some experience in Research and Development or academic environments where creativity and problem solving were emphasized. Areas of experience that would assist a candidate in this position include field programmable gate arrays (FPGA), programmable logic device (PAL), “hardware” algorithm design and embedded system design with emphasis on board layout and chip selection. Familiarity with programming for embedded applications in ANSI C is desirable. Candidates with less experience than above but strong academic records are encouraged to apply.
Degree: BS Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or other related field of science
